La Lira

La Lira is an urban facility designed in 2005 and finished in 2012 that occupies the site left after the demolition of the theater La Lira, in the city of Ripoll. This square, covered with Corten steel and painted steel, has lateral sores with interstices for vegetation to grow and for the sun to shine through. The designers hope that the greenery will one day contrast with the harshness of the urban setting that is now the empty square. Thus, hard to withstand use and green as an idea and future, the new covered square is extended – stretching a walkway that turns it into a viewpoint – to cross over the course of the river, leaving behind the old medieval city wall.

Asmitec has been the construction company of the entire surrounding structure of the square, the fonamentation and the footbridge that connects the square with the other bank of the Ter river. With excellent finishes and materials and a maximum respect for the vision of the architectural project, the Lira de Ripoll has emerged over time as a benchmark of urban planning and Catalan architecture; a fact that is corroborated by the many awards won nationally and internationally.
